The
Community Services Program offers various therapeutic interventions to
adolescents 12 to 18 years of age and their
families. The program operates out of the Administration building. Following
the initial assessment, recommendations for the type of intervention are made.
The adolescent and/or family are then placed on a wait
list.
The Community Services Program offers Individual, Family,
Couple, Group and Art Therapy. There are various groups that are
offered which include Adolescent, Parents and Multiple Family
Groups.
The Adolescent Group is for those who require assistance
with peer relations and social skills. This is an open-ended group
and the members are encouraged to discuss their own individual
issues.
The Parents Group also meets weekly and is a place for
parents to discuss issues related to their adolescents and
themselves. It may be attended by one or both
parents.
The Multiple Family Group consists of up to
four families who meet on a weekly basis. The families’ issues are discussed using a group format so that
parents/adolescents can give priority in assisting one another and support each other
with common issues.
The Community Services Program also has a
Psychometrist who is available to do any required testing (intellectual,
academic). The Psychometrist consults with a Psychologist regularly
regarding further testing of a psychological nature.
A Consulting Psychiatrist is also on staff to provide
psychiatric consultation and treatment planning as
needed.
Art Therapy is a form of therapy offered to adolescents who
have difficulty expressing themselves verbally.
